Tonight w
as Conan O’Brien’s last night of “Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” and as he leaves the show its fair to say, “He’s the best”. He was the most unlikely host of the Tonight Show as far as his resume goes. An Irish-American, a Harvard graduate and a History and Literature graduate. He started out as a writer with Saturday Night Live and the Simpsons. He later hosted “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” which he made it his own. Finally, Jay Leno passed on the “Tonight Show” to Conan and seven months later he is out of it because of the huge mess created by NBC, its President, Jeff Zucker (interestingly, Jeff was competitor of Conan during his Harvard days as editors of competitor magazines) and Jay Leno.
The reason for firing Conan from “Tonight Show” was that the ratings of the show were down but the real reason was mess created by Jeff Zucker and Jay Leno for accepting the “Jay Leno Show” even though his gig with NBC was up. Leno should have taken the moral high ground and not accepted the show, which obviously affected ratings for Conan’s show.
Conan ended his show in a very classy and emotional way. In the last week, he appealed everyone to donate to the Haiti cause, which is far more important that some stupid show. He ended the show with a few words for young people. “Never be cynical. Work hard and be Kind”.
